Methodological information
1. Data have been compiled according to Eurostat classification -Shortlist on Causes of Death - May 2012-.
2. Cases with 'not stated' or 'unspecified' cause of death have been included in cause 16.2 'Unknown and unspecified causes'. Deaths that occurred in 2022-2023 for which the results of the forensic report are pending are also included in cause 16.2. For years 2019-2020, based on the World Health Organization's cause of death coding rules, codes I46.0 (Cardiac Arrest) and I46.9 (Cardiac Arrest, unspecified) are not acceptable as underlying causes of death; the software automatically assigns code R99 (cause 16.2).
3. Included are all deaths occurring in Cyprus, both of residents and non-residents, as well as deaths of Cypriot residents occurring abroad.
4. The figures which are published by the Statistical Service are based on the data available in 22nd of May 2025 from Health Monitoring Unit (Ministry of Health).
